01/01/12 What a great start to the new year. We travelled to Taunton Show today at Bath & West Showground. First Gary showed Sophie and she won her class followed by both my cockers in the same class with Gary showing Smokey for me. The judge did admit he liked both dogs but gave it to Smokey. In the group I was very proud of Smokey at nearly aged eight to win the group! Nothing in the BIS ring but just very chuffed to be there.
18/12/11 A lovely Christmas Show at Totnes Limit. Smokey won the BOB and then went on to win Gundog Group 4. We then challenged for Gundog Veteran and she won and then went on to win Best Veteran in Show, my girl goes from strength to strength. I took Corrine with me today and she entered a Junior Handling class though she’s only four. She did very well showing Eddie and they made a lovely team
29/11/11 Today I received Smokey’s Show Certificate of Merit from the Kennel Club. What a clever old girl she is, saving everything up until she's a veteran. I am a very proud owner - both of my dogs have their ShCM and their Stud Book Numbers.
20/11/11 A truly memorable weekend. On Saturday we were entered for Devon & Cornwall Cocker Open Show and also Plymouth & District Open Show. We went to Plymouth first and both Smokey and Eddie won their classes and then Eddie went on to win Best of Breed so we then had to wait for the group so going to the cocker show was now out of the question. In the meantime Smokey was entered for Gundog Veteran and well, how wonderful when she was placed first. In the Gundog group Eddie was placed 2nd behind a lovely black yankee and so we were well pleased. Nothing in BVIS for Smokey but very happy with our day. A big thank you to judges Kati Chyallis and Angela Morgan. The next day of to Penzance & District Open Show and a great surprise when Edwin again was awarded Reserve Best Gundog . Thank you Lyn Hunter.
11/07/11 A very successful day for Gwbert today. We set off at 6.00am to get to Stithians Show in Cornwall for 8.00am. All went according to plan and I took Smokey in AV Gundog Veteran 7 - 9 years. Well bless her cotton socks she won the class and then went on to challenge the winner of the Veteran 10 years and over class. The winner was …..Smokey! I was very, very proud of her and have a lovely rosette on show at home. Eddie won his class and then went on to win Best of Breed. I was so pleased our judge Bridget Bodle awarded him Gundog Group Four.
10/06/11 A great day for Gary and Sophie at Three Counties Championship Show. Sophie was placed third in Open Bitch and has therefore her Kennel club Stud Book Number. She then went on to be placed very highly in 2 stakes classes, well done little Sophie! The high-light of my day was meeting Smokey’s brother Toby for the first time in four years. He looks absolutely fantastic and it was a huge relief to know he is so well loved and cared for by Angie and he is really enjoying being shown again.
26/04/11 What a super Easter weekend. The only downside was Smokey wasn’t with us due to her being in season. On Easter Sunday we went to West Country Dog Club Open Show where Eddie and Sophie both won their classes and had to challenge for Best of Breed. Edwin won, though the judge did say it was very close and he went on to be short-listed in the group. Thanks to our judge; Jane Eyeington On Easter Monday we went to Cornwall Gun Dog Show, and again Edwin and Sophie were in the challenge for Best of Breed along with Sheelah Webb’s dogs. Thanks to Aidene Howes for giving Edwin Best of Breed and Sophie Reserve Best of Breed and also Best Opposite Sex.
10/04/11 Many thanks to judge Mandy Dance who gave Smokey Reserve Best Veteran in Show at Bodmin. Eddie and Sophie then went on to win their classes, a lovely pub lunch on the way home made our day perfect.
20/02/11 A trip to Llynfi Valley Open Show in Wales and Edwin excelled himself by being placed first in the Gundog Group. He wasn't placed in the Best in Show Ring, but we had a lovely day out and bought some pretty Welsh daffodils. Many thanks to our judge Mr C Mills.
13/02/11 A lovely Valentine’s weekend with Edwin winning Best of Breed on both days. Smokey certainly didn’t disgrace herself winning a 2nd on the Saturday and a 3rd on the Sunday under the judge who had given her, her 1st Best of Breed 5 years ago!
14/11/10 A super weekend. At Devon Top Dog on the Saturday Edwin got through to the 2nd round. Then we had dinner and a bop and a few drinks. On checking up on Eddie and Sophie in our chalet I discovered them on a bed watching Casualty! The next day on to Minehead Show and Eddie and Sophie both won their classes and Sophie won Best of Breed and Gundog Group 4. Well done Sophie.
09/10/10 I love this show! Two years ago to the day Edwin won Reserve Best In Show at Liskeard & District Open Show and today he did it again. A huge thank you to our judge Susan Whitehead. Also that winning team of Bowman, Dare, Green and Pearn were again 1st in the Inter Club Team Stakes.
15/08/10 A very eventful day out at Mid-Somerset Agricultural Society Open Show. To start the day well Gary was stung by a wasp on the lip as he ate a Chelsea Bun! Off to the Red Cross tent with him for some first aid and then he was back in time to show Sophie who was placed first in her class and so was Eddie who went on to win the BOB. Thank-you to judge Sylvia Budd. We then went into the BIS Ring with about 34 dogs as it wasn’t judged on the group system. Edwin was short-listed to the final 8 dogs so I was very, very pleased. He then went under the same judge for the Open Stakes and was placed first. Thank-you to our judge Mrs Meg Purnell Carpenter.
13/07/10 Fantastic two days—On Sunday we went to Liskeard Premier Show where Edwin took the BOB. Then Fran, Kim, Gary and myself entered the Inter Club Breed Stakes on behalf of Devon & Cornwall Cocker Club with 4 black cockers and we were placed 1st. A huge thank-you to our judge Moira Barrass
Monday dawned and Gary and I went motoring off to Stithians Show. Kim was placed 1st with Lois, I was placed 1st with Eddie and Gary placed first with Sophie—Sophie then won the BOB! But to cap it all she also won Gundog Group 1. The judge insisted on judging in the pouring rain, so a very wet and bedraggled Sophie had to be dried off with no electric hairdryers just towels and hard work. She looked fantastic in the Best in Show ring and showed beautifully, unfortunately only two can be placed and it wasn’t her day. Well done our Sophie I always knew you could get this far.
03/05/10 An interesting day at West Country Dog Club! My lovely Smokey won Best of Breed and strutted her stuff with style. It was a day for the girls as Sophie also was placed first. I am reliably informed it is all to do with magpies!! (ask Gary)
23/04/10 A great day out today at WELKS. Sophie and Eddie both had a reserve placing, Sophie in Yearling Bitch and Eddie in Limit Dog. Well done Sophie your first Champ Show placing and not your last. We met up with lots of friends and had a super day out in the glorious spring sunshine.
05/04/10 Cornwall Gundog Show and Eddie won best dog and Smokey best bitch. Eddie then went on to win Best of Breed. Nothing in the Group, but a lovely day out with all my friends winning their BOB’s and we all had a great time.
03/04/10 What a fantastic day at Exonian Open Show. Both Smokey and Eddie won their classes under Jane Lilley and then Eddie went on to win BOB followed by Group1. He then capped it all by winning BEST IN SHOW! Lovely rosettes and £50 prize money. He now qualifies for Top Dog of Devon. Thank you to judges Lynne Hunter and Jane Lilley
28/03/10 Okehampton Open show today and I took all three, Smokey and Eddie won their classes and Otis was placed 3rd in his. Eddie then went on to win Gundog Group 1. On getting home a lovely roast turkey dinner was waiting me. Eddie decided that the carcass was his and pinched it off the kitchen work surface - ’well mum I did win Group 1’ Cheeky boy!
27/03/10 Today we received Edwin’s Stud Book Number. It is never a done deal until I get the certificate. How so proud am I of my lovely black boy. My thanks to Adam Murray.
23/03/10 Smokey is 6 today. ‘Happy Birthday Mo-mo!’ We all had a walk on the beach this morning to celebrate but I’m afraid it was very wet and miserable, roll on the summer. Smokey is as mad today as ever and never runs out of playfulness.
06/02/10 BEST IN SHOW for Eddie at Tiverton Limit show, how fantastic I’m over the moon! Smokey also won her class, Sophie hers and Pheobie won BEST PUPPY IN SHOW. A wonderful day for Cocker Spaniels. Thank you to our judge Dr Helen Almay
16/01/10 A long but very successful day at Yeovil Open Show. Sophie won her class and Edwin his and then he went on to win Best of Breed. In the group he won Gundog Group 4 so I was very happy with him. Also Franaille Oceans (Pheobie) owned by Fran Bowman won Best Puppy and then Puppy Group 2. Well done little Pheobs! she really showed her socks off in the group. Thank you to judges Miss D Spavin and Mrs A Corbett
10/01/10 We should have gone to The Welsh Kennel Club Open Show today - but due to ‘The Big Freeze’ it was cancelled, as were most of the dogs shows scheduled for this weekend. Never mind I gave Otis a good bath and trim (not sure he appreciated it!)
03/01/10 A good start to 2010 with Eddie winning Best of Breed at Bridgend and District Open Show. Thank you to our judge Ms Fiona Watson.
06/12/09 A great weekend! On Saturday at Exonian Open Show dear Smokey won Best of Breed. On Sunday after an interesting drive to Weymouth through some very wet countryside to Dorset County CS Open Show, Eddie won Best of Breed and Gundog Group 4. Sophie also did very well with a nice 1st.
29/08/09 Newton Abbot Open Show today and I had the honour of showing Sophie. You can imagine how pleased I was when she was placed first in her class. Well done Sophie! Smokey also won her class and Eddie went on to win RBOB and BOS.
